Happy New Year! My resolution is to keep this blog current. What a blast to go back at the end of 2009 and read and see what we did!

Christmas 2008 was okay. For some reason Doug and I just didn't get into it. We never figured out what was missing, but something was "off". Our home was decorated, we listened to holiday tunes, we shopped for our loved ones, we attended holiday gatherings, and even checked out the light display at Temple Square. But we just couldn't get into the groove.

Anika was able to see Santa Claus several times this season. She become more comfortable each time and eventually got close enough to touch him. "Jingle Bells" was her favorite holiday song, we even used it as our doorbell chime.

Grandma and Grandpa Johnson helped us decorate the Christmas tree. We had pizza for dinner and then enjoyed the evening together. Hopefully this will become a tradition in our family.

We visited Grandpa Mark and Grandma Sandy's house to decorate their tree on December 14. It was fun to see everyone and we always have fun reminiscing about the different ornaments. Mom gave each of us an ornament every year so you can imagine how full the tree is now! Santa visited the party and everyone sat on his lap to share their holiday wish. We sang a few songs and enjoyed the time.

Christmas Eve was split between the grandparents' homes. Dinner and gifts were shared at The Roberts' first. It was my year to buy angels for all the girls - Mom started the tradition a few years ago and we decided to keep it going. Shopping for the angels was fun, but a bit stressful. I wanted each angel to be special but I think I missed the mark - Cassie's was the only one that really matched. We spent the night at The Johnsons' along with Doug's sister and her family. The kids had fun together in their new jammies. Since Grandma and Grandpa JJ give the jammies we are going to give slippers each year. Anika's slippers looked like wooden shoes from Holland. They are so cute.

Christmas morning was crazy! The kids had a terrific time and I think everyone enjoyed the gifts Santa left for them. Anika received her first tricycle - hopefully she'll figure it out by the time the weather warms up!
